Job Summary

The Financial Controller will provide financial direction to management, support budgeting and forecasting, and ensure strong internal controls to protect company assets. The role also manages bank reconciliations, monitors project costs, and supports audit and tax compliance. The position collaborates with AR, AP, SCM, PMO, and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & GL Control

  • Maintain the general ledger and prepare monthly management accounts.
  • Manage accruals, prepayments, journals, and fixed assets.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing activities.

Audit, Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare audit schedules and assist external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with PAYE, WHT, VAT, Pension, NHF, NSITF, and ITF.
  • Maintain accurate records for audit purposes.

Bank Reconciliations & Internal Controls

  • Oversee bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies with AR/AP teams.
  • Strengthen internal controls to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial data.

Project Accounting & Costing

  • Review project cost entries and confirm proper WBS or cost centre allocation.
  • Work with PMO and technical teams on revenue recognition and reporting.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support the use of Sage and Zoho Books.
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes and reporting templates.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Timely preparation of monthly accounts and reconciled trial balance.
  • Accurate and up-to-date bank reconciliations.
  • Reliable project cost reporting.
  • No major audit issues.
  • Full compliance with statutory deadlines.

Requirements

  • B.Sc or HND in Accounting or Finance.
  • ICAN or ACCA qualification, or advanced stage.
  • 5–8 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger, reporting, and IFRS.
  • Proficiency in Sage, Zoho Books, or any ERP/accounting system.
  • Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, reconciliations).
